Natural Household Cleaners Review and Giveaway

I “met” Jenny, author of The Peaceful Housewife blog, about 6 weeks ago. We are both contributing bloggers for Job Description: Mommy. I instantly liked her blog, especially since we were both pretty new to the blogging world. I soon discovered that she was working on the launch of her Peaceful Housewife store.

Jenny specializes in all natural household cleaners at ridiculously affordable prices. Not only will you feel good about using chemical free cleaning products but your wallet won’t suffer!

Jenny’s store offers laundry detergent, diaper pail freshener, foaming hand soap, foaming dish soap, scouring powder, linen spray, multipurpose cleaning spray, wood and furniture polish, and glass cleaner. You can get all of these products unscented or with the addition of one of 12 scents from essential and fragrance oils.

I have been slacking in the “making my own cleaner department” and thought that I would test Jenny’s products to see how they fared. I was especially interested in the Laundry Detergent and the Room and Linen Spray.

I received the Laundry Detergent in a soothing lavender vanilla scent. Now, I am NOT a fan of laundry powder and am pretty married to my favorite liquid. I went into this knowing that I was testing out a powder and did not hold out much hope that I would like it, no matter how well it cleaned. Much to my surprise, I LOVE this detergent! It got all of my husband’s work clothes really clean, did not leave any sort of residue, and had just the faintest lingering smell of vanilla. It also worked miracles on our cleaning rags. I kid you not – some stains were gone that had been there for ages. Jenny must add some magical ingredient! Despite my aversion to powder detergent, I will absolutely be making the switch to this detergent. I cannot wait to try out some of the other yummy scents!

In case you were wondering, the ingredients in the laundry detergent are: plant-based cleaning agent, sodium borate, sodium carbonate, and fragrance or essential oils at the customer’s request. The laundry detergent contains no optical brighteners, enzymes, dyes, SLS or phthalates. You can purchase it in 20, 120, or 200 load bags.

Jenny was also kind enough to send me two Room and Linen Sprays to test out. I selected coconut lime verbena and birthday cake scented sprays.

First, I have made room spray before and was not impressed. The scent never lasted more than a few minutes. Second, I never really found a scent I liked. Jenny’s Room and Linen Sprays are wonderful! Not only did they last for a long time but the scents were mild and easy on those of us suffering from spring allergies. I did not walk into the room after spraying it and get knocked over by a powerful scent. It was subtle and pleasing. The birthday cake scent smells exactly like funfetti cake, but without the added calories! The coconut lime verbena brought me back to my wedding in Jamaica. J

The ingredients in the Room and Linen spray are simple: water, perfumers alcohol, and essential or fragrance oils at customer’s request. An 8 ounce bottle is a mere $3.50. Seriously, you cannot go wrong!

I also made a little discovery about Jenny’s Room and Linen Sprays! Since these sprays are so natural, you can actually use them as doggy deodorizing sprays. My pooch is 140 pounds of old, stinky dog and the birthday cake spray sure made him smell yummy!

I cannot wait to try out more products found in The Peaceful Housewife’s store. I know that they will be just as fabulous as the two that I tried!

Jenny has been kind enough to offer one lucky person a $10 gift certificate to her store. Trust me, you will want to try her products and $10 will get you a whole lot of bang for your buck!

I would like to try the 120-Load Bag of Laundry Detergent in either lavender Vanilla or eucalyptus mint. Both sound wonderful. After reading the story from the peaceful housewife I decided I would probably like the detergent too since I am also very much a liquid detergent person. =) Thanks!
