I love reading other blogger’s comprehensive and entertaining Sunday Surf posts. I always find some gems in each one.
Time, energy, and Tiny keep me from participating in this Sunday ritual however, I realized that some of you might actually enjoy this sort of post. I tend to link all of my good finds on Pinterest throughout the week so be sure to hunt me down there to see what great reads I have shared. I also post links on Facebook when I get a chance although I find myself feeling like I do not want to blast your newsfeeds with too many links. Hence, why I Pin.
Having said all that, here are some posts that I have been really wanting to share. This week I am bombarding you with more parenting related posts. Next week I will throw the health and real food posts your way. A few are “older” but most are from the past couple of weeks. I hope you enjoy these gems as much as I did.
Just A Bald Man is writing a Myth Series on his blog which thus far has been incredibly brilliant. His writing is beyond words…it is just THAT good. Posts to date include:
Myth Series #1- I Can Control How My Kids Turn Out
Myth Series #2 – Kids Need A Parent, Not A Friend
Myth Series #3 – Kids Need Structure
Myth Series #4 – Children Should Learn for Their Country
Myth Series #5 – Kids Are Obligated To ***
Dulce De Leche has just started a series on Opening Up the Gentle Discipline Toolbox. Her first post addresses Physical Needs and the second post addresses Play. Both posts have a lot of great ideas along with helpful links. I cannot wait to read more! And there will be lots more!
Aha Parenting is really one of the most valuable parenting resources I know of. Every post by Dr. Laura Markham is a must read in my humble opinion. Dangerous Emotions is a great post about honoring your feelings by acknowledging them, but not acting on them while you’re feeling them. In addition, 10 Things You Can Learn From Grandparents is really brilliant. I love Dr. Laura!
Consensual Living is a great blog with post that always get my wheels turning and give me pause for thought. No Good or Bad and Everything is a Choice is a very inspiring post guaranteed to make you think about how you view your life.
Alternative Mama puts everything on the table in her most recent post You Are A Good Mother. I am certain that this is the best post she has ever written.
And that post was inspired by Mothers and Our Families; Never Perfect, But Always Great from Birth Without Fear. Year – this one got my eyes a little watery.
“Whether we like it or not, our children are going to get labeled – by us, by their family, by their teachers and by society. But what is the effect of all this labeling and is there anything we can do to alleviate any problems it might cause?” Labeling Kids and Self Fulfilling Prophecy is a very insightful post from Free Your Parenting. It stirred up a few things in me for sure.
This post is from a while ago but Mamammalia’s Starter Kit for Unconditional Parenting is a must read.
So this whole Occupy movement has me thinking. A lot. I am on the fence about it really but there is neither here nor there. An Open Letter to Occupy San Diego was posted over at Racialicious and it really got me thinking. This article is worth the read as it presents some pretty powerful insights.
And of course there is the Penn State tragedy. While many of you may be unable to read yet another diatribe about it, I do encourage you to check out Just A Bald Man’s post about Penn State. Seriously. It is just that good.

Funny, I also think that Aha!Parenting is must-read daily reading. Many approaches in gentle parenting don’t exactly come “naturally” for most of us. I find that reading Dr. Markham’s posts actually re-wire my brain so that it does becomes habit. Great stuff!
