Wholesome Comfort – Whole Foods To Nourish and Warm Your Family is another fabulous Ebook from Kate at Modern Alternative Mama! I have enjoyed every one of her books and this one is no exception.
Kate was kind enough to include a testimonial from me in her book, but I think it warrants a reprint here as it was an honest first impression.
Kate has done it again! Just when I thought it was impossible to top her last collection of recipes, Kate has created what I consider to be THE go-to comfort food cookbook. As a real foodie I understand the importance of warming, nourishing foods during the cold months. However, finding tried and true recipes that are wholesale yet do not compromise flavor has been a challenge. Kate has successfully brought together the best of both worlds.
Our family loves soup so I immediately made the chicken and dumplings. WOW! This is honestly the best version of a classic recipe that I have found. The flavors are rich and this soup is very filling, making it quite economical. I also tried the Italian Chicken and as an Italian can tell you that this is a really amazing dish! Kate outdid herself with this recipe. The chicken is very moist and the flavors are so savory. The sauce is really what makes this dish pop.
One of the most exciting things about this book is that many of the recipes are allergy friendly both by design and by accident. It is tough to find comfort food recipes that are free of the typical allergens but Kate has found a way to do that with many of the recipes. As per the usual, Kate’s cookbook is well written, easy to use, and has lots of useful tid-bits of information. I cannot wait to see what she does next!
Do you need me to say more about how wonderful this book is? Well then, since you asked, I will!
I have since tried many of the other recipes in this book and every one of them has been delicious, super easy to make with ingredients that I tend to have on hand, and easy to adapt to gluten free/GAPS restrictions. Both my daughter and husband have gobbled everything up and Kate’s lamb recipe has become a favorite for all of us. I also must admit that the almond flour dinner rolls have become something of an obsession for me. They are beyond addicting and unlike other almond flour bread products, they are not too “dessert like” or heavy.

Yay! I finally got the links to work. They work on my computer, but not on my iPhone. Anyway, I noticed that this book has lots of meat dishes, so if I won I’d try all the vegetarian one’s and then pass this wonderful collection along to my older sister who would LOVE it! and needs this kind of inspiration badly… I would love to try the “Twice-Baked Potatoes”, the Macaroni and Cheese”, and the “Gingerbread”…
Thanks Jennifer, and MAM.
