Sunday Surf – Short and Sweet

So there is a little bit of heat in the blogshpere over whether or not Whole Foods is any better than Walmart.  I am sharing two posts that pretty much cover both sides of the argument.  The first is a more scathing post which bashes Whole Foods and their practice of allowing GMO foods onto their shelves.  The other post is a rebuttal and takes a look at the practicality of a large natural food chain grocery store being 100% GMO food free.

My two cents?  I despise Walmart and avoid them when I can BUT if it was the only place where I could afford to feed my family, I would shop there in a heartbeat. Sustaining life takes priority.  I feel the same way about Whole Foods.  Although I prefer to support my local farmers through my CSA and by shopping at the Farmer’s Market, I do go to Whole Foods because they carry some items that I cannot find elsewhere. I spend most of my time at our two local, family owned health food stores but they don’t have everything I need either.  So again, Whole Foods is my best option. You do what you have to do to feed your family.  Period.  Don’t ever feel guilty about where you might have to shop in order to do that.  We are all doing the best we can with the resources we have.

In parenting post news… I cried big tears after I read this post on “only” having 940 Saturdays from the time your baby is born until he or she is 18.  940 isn’t a lot.  The sad part is that for most families, the weekends are a rush of errands, chores, and activities and the fine art of “family time” takes a back seat to other “priorities” and obligations.  If 940 Saturdays seem like to few, I encourage you to designate more of them as a family day.

And that is all for today!

  1. 940 Sundays is definitely too few. Despite the fact that hubby is searching for a job that gives us “normal” hours, we’ve been making each day he has off as filled with each other as possible.
They are only little once and it goes by way too fast for me to worry too much about the tedious things of life.

  2. Wow, 940 really puts it in perspective.

I like shopping more locally than Whole Foods or Walmart, but sometimes I go to them, so … yeah … I hear what you’re saying.
