I have always loved fresh pressed vegetable juice. Carrot and beet juice has long been a favorite of mine. However, I did not own a juicer until recently.

Now I am somewhat of a juice addict!

Fresh juices are a tremendous source of enzymes. Enzymes are your body’s work force. Acting as catalysts in hundreds of thousands of chemical reactions that take place throughout the body, enzymes are essential for digestion and absorption of food, for conversion of food stuffs into body tissue, and for the production of energy at the cellular level.

Enzymes are destroyed by heat. When you eat cooked foods, whether its meat, grains, fruits, or vegetables, the enzymes have been destroyed by the heat. Since fruits and vegetables are juiced raw, the enzymes are still viable when you drink the juice.

Juicing also removes the indigestible fiber making these nutrients available to the body in much larger quantities than if the piece of fruit or vegetable was eaten whole. For example, because many of the nutrients are trapped in the fiber, when you eat a raw carrot, you are only able to assimilate about 1% of the available beta carotene. When a carrot is juiced, removing the fiber, nearly 100% of the beta carotene can be assimilated.

Fruits and vegetables provide one more substance that is absolutely essential for good health – water. More than 65% of most of the cells in the human body are made of water, and in some tissues, for example the brain, the cells can be made up of as much as 80% water. Water is absolutely essential for good health, yet most people don’t consume enough water each day. Plus, many of the fluids we do drink, coffee, tea, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages and artificially flavored drinks each contain substances that require extra water for your body to eliminate. Fruit and vegetable juices are free of these unneeded substances and are full of pure, clean water.

Now all of that is well and good but juicing’s biggest health benefit is cellular cleansing.

We are all cleansing right now, and have been since the moment of conception. Every cell is constantly peeing and pooping. Every time we breathe out, we’ve cleansed our body of the metabolic waste known as carbon dioxide. Every time we have a bowel movement, our body is eliminating old cellular material. Cleansing occurs because our body’s cells are constantly dying and being replaced with new cells. Our spleen and liver and stomach cells do it, our intestinal walls do it, even our bones and muscle cells do this regeneration circle of life.

Juicing works so well at cleansing the system because:

  1. There is hardly any digestive work needed to process raw, enzymatically active liquid.
  2. Vegetable juice gets into the system quickly.
  3. Fresh pressed vegetable juice is very nutrient-dense.
  4. The phytonutrients, or plant chemicals are proving to be the key behind keeping our bodies free of cancer, digestive problems, and other degenerative illnesses.

You can pretty much juice any fruit or vegetable. It is much better for your body if you primarily juice vegetables with a little fruit added in more flavor. Fruits can still spike your blood sugar so it is best not to juice fruits day in and day out.

Here is a breakdown of the health benefits of my favorite vegetables and fruits which I have had success juicing.

Vegetables

Beets (Beetroots) are cell-builders. They renew the body with a hint of sweetness and key minerals. They also build your circulatory system and are good for your heart. Beets are known to aids in weight loss and are great at promoting kidney and liver function.

Broccoli is a significant source of calcium and helps prevent bone loss. Glucosinolates rid excess estrogen & reduce the risk of breast cancer. They are high in anti-oxidants, as well as lutein, which protects against age-related macular degeneration. They also contain sulforaphane, which helps ease ulcers, gastritis & indigestion.

Cabbage is an agent to fight stomach ulcers.

Carrots are an excellent source of antioxidants from beta-carotene. Carrots play an outstanding role in optimal health in the body and provide immune support.

Cucumber and its significant water content aids in kidney, liver, and pancreatic function. Cucumber juice is high in antioxidants and Vitamin C, promoting healthy skin and hair.

Ginger is asuper root and contains many benefits. It is known for aiding in digestion by soothing the stomach and also aiding in circulation.

Kale is a rare vegetable in the sense that you can obtain calcium from it! It is also promoted for its Vitamin C and Vitamin A content. Kale is known for its Lutein content, and is one of the best sources of beta-carotene—a pro-vitamin A source.

Parsley (or Cilantro) is known for its pro-vitamin A beta carotene content as well as its green chlorophyll content. Parsley is the most nutritious herb you can eat. Parsley juice cleanses the urinary tract, the blood and helps prevent kidney and liver cancer.

Romaine lettuce is a highly nutritious salad green and is known for its vitamins A, B, and C content, as well as manganese and chromium content.

Spinach is a fabulous source of vitamin K, magnesium, and iron. This popular vegetable includes several important phytochemicals, including Lutein. Spinach is one of the most nutrient dense foods. One-cup is more than your daily requirements of Vitamin K, A, manganese, folate, magnesium, fiber, calcium, & protein.

Watercress is one of the most nutrient-dense foods you can put in your body. Known for its calcium, iron, and potassium content, watercress ranks high among nutrition professionals.

Wheatgrass improves digestion & metabolism, improves skin, and prevents tooth decay.

Zucchini is a good source of vitamin A & carotene. Potassium helps reduce blood pressure & heart rates.

Fruits

Apples are full of antioxidant vitamin C and soluble fiber. They are also a great way to lightly sweeten an otherwise tart juice. Apples act as ‘intestinal brooms’. They contain malic & galacturonic acid, which remove impurities. Pectin prevents the breakdown of protein.

Blueberries are chalk full of the antioxidant Vitamin C.

Cherries are a good source of vitamin C and potassium. They are known to ease indigestion and constipation and can be used to treat anemia and gout.

Cranberry is a diuretic that cleans out infections and toxins, especially in the urinary tract, kidneys & liver.

Grapefruit is a vitamin C powerhouse with a sprinkling of soluble fiber. It is known for aiding in weight loss.

Grapes are a powerful cleanser. It gets all of the systems moving!

Lemons are a natural acidifier. They have an incredible effect on the stomach, and as they stimulate the digestive system you will feel the change. I recommend adding lemon to everything!

Lime contains vitamin C, supporting a healthy immune system and fighting free radicals. Limes contain unique flavonoids.

Pears are a collection of beneficial vitamins and minerals, including A, B1, B2, C, E, folic acid and niacin. It is known for its copper and potassium levels as well as its pectin content, which increases bulk and supports digestion efforts.

Pineapple is a source of manganese, and bromelain, an enzyme that helps break down proteins.

Strawberryies contain phytonutrients and antioxidants such as vitamin C, which have repeatedly been shown to help protect cell structures in the body and fight oxidative reactions.

Tomato juice is loaded in vitamins and minerals and contains very little sugar. It is one of the best fruits for you..

Watermelon juice is loaded with vitamins and nutrients. A diuretic, it cleans out the kidney & bladder.
